May- It's okay to take a break sometimes
May was definitely a relaxing month for me! I was able to work on some wood projects and Mikal helped me build this beautiful farmhouse corner shelf. I am in love with it! Mikal has been experimenting with different ways to age new wood and has tried a lot of different ways. He has found his favorite so far has been the black tea and a vinegar mix.
I got to go back to Washington for a week and helped on the farm cutting our fire blight in the orchard and also helped out Kira and the boys while Peter was gone. I had a blast taking Wesley to the Kidz Dig Rigz. He loved being able to sit on all the tractors, ride in a monster truck, and his all time favorite- move the arm on the garbage truck! We got some shaved ice to cool off as well. 😍
On Wednesday before Memorial Day weekend, I took off with Carter and we went back to Rexburg. Mikal built these awesome frames for my boss's wife to put up in the Idaho Falls office that I work for so we went down to the other office on Thursday to get them hung.
Mom and Keldon made it late Thursday night to Rexburg. I was so excited for our fun weekend plans we had made!
Friday we went up to Goldbug Hot Springs. It was a hot hike, but beautiful! We got to the hot springs and the clouds came in and it rained! It was very refreshing! Sage even loved going into the "cooler" hot spring. We finished off eating dinner at a pizza place in Salmon, Idaho.
Saturday, we headed up to Sandcreek and went riding up where Mikal used to fix fence. The boys did great on their bikes! Our AWESOME neighbors let us borrow their four-wheeler for the day and my mom and I were able to go as well. We went up the mountain and made a big loop back to the truck. At the bottom of the mountain, Carter had a little accident. He laid down his bike. It definitely scared him. He would not stop talking about it. 😄 We call that place "Cooter's crash" (which I'll explain how that came about next) We went to Karie Ann's two times that day as well. My mom LOVES it!
Sunday after church we ate a quick bite and headed over to Driggs. We stopped at the National Geographic Center there and looked at a lot of the cool artifacts they have in the building. The lady at the front desk wanted us to sign the book that we came. Carter thought Mikal spelled his name "Cooter" so that is how Cooter's crash came about. We were wanting to hike up Darby Canyon to go to the wind caves, but it was raining too hard and lighting (and I did not want to end up having the same thing happen to me as the girls camp girls) So we just drove up the canyon and turned around. Maybe one day I will make it up there! I decided to have us make the loop through Swan Valley so they could see Palisades Reservoir and also Fall Creek Falls. We actually have sun come out over the valley! It was awesome! We also stopped at the Crest Creek trail and did that little hike as well before we headed home for dinner.
It was a fun month! It was much needed for me after tax season. I was able to finally have some time to just "play" and not have to worry about anything. Sometimes working can get so repetitive, so times with family is just the cure.
